Hi,
Just got a call from Am Vets (www.amvets.org) -- a 60-year old veterans charity in search of a donation:
Now, they may be a great organization. I dunno. But when I asked the feller, "How much of our donations go to help Vets?" -- the guy sez, "10%."
I sez, "Duuuuh, what?" And then I pause to do some complicated math. "So...90% goes to fundraising costs?" I ask. He sez, "Yep, you gotta spend money to make money."
Ugh. We end the conversation agreeing to amicably part ways.
I'd like to make a donation to a great group that helps vets when they come home. Ideally one that spends a high percentage on actual vets. Not a political organization (I'm all for that, that's just not what I'm in search of right now) -- a services organization.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
-Cecil
